NCIS and Social Media are a Toxic Mix

There are times I think that social media is the armpit of the world.

Why do I say that when I use Google +, Facebook, and Twitter?

Simple …

It’s the other people who use the mediums that cause issues.

Take this recent NCIS scandal. Cote de Pablo is leaving NCIS, and citing “personal reasons”. And, I respect her decision. She’s obviously given it a long, hard thought considering the announcement was made a week before production started.

I’m sure some people have been tied to a job they wished they could leave – and, she is doing just that. Who wouldn’t want a life outside of work?

Some of the comments on the articles (and according to some “friends” – the fandoms), are almost borderline hysterical, hilarious, ludicrous and bordering on insane.

My “favorite”:

“Why is anyone messing with the # 1 show? It's ludicrous! Pay the money! Change her mind. This is probably the last year. Make it great!”

REALLY?

This was my reply:

“It's not always about the money. It could be that she has other works or it might be a personal reason as to why she is leaving.

If it is personal, no amount of money can get anyone to stay.”

Why does it have to be about money? Couldn’t it be “personal” reasons? Which I later found out from @Hailey_Murray on Twitter. If you don’t know who she is, she is Sean Murray’s (McGee) sister-in-law

Here’s a GOOD one, I am not making up:

Ok, sunshine, what’s he supposed to do? Beg? Sorry, co-worker retention is NOT in his job description I’ll wager.

Luckily, the fan saw the error of her ways and deleted the tweet.

I know some of us are upset … but FOCUS!! Quit begging. This is just another reason why some celebrities do not interact with us:

I think some people in the NCIS “world” are forgetting Cote is a person. She likely has other interests outside of work. Be honest, who doesn’t? We don’t know the entire story. Perhaps the personal reasons are because of health, family or just “she’s tired”. Maybe she wants time off to do something different. That is for her to tell us, when and if she wants.

As far as killing off the character – let’s examine this:

Killing character off = no possibility of return, actor is permanently severed with character and show, gives permanent closure to character & story-line

Not killing character off = possibility of return, actor is still “tethered” to the role and show, does NOT give closure to character or story-line

Sometimes it is the decision of the writers/producers, sometimes it is the actor. We need to respect that – NO MATTER WHAT!

Here are the tweets in which Hailey Murray shared what was going on:

As you can see, I think Hailey Murray knows what is going on.

Who are we to second guess it? If it is personal, throwing more money at someone is downright insulting. I'd be insulted.

Social media is to connect with family, friends, share experiences, and meet new people. Obviously I was wrong ... because of some people social media isn’t always about connecting … it’s about being as stupid as it gets.

Yes, you're upset! Shout, cry, scream.

I've seen people using "hashtags" #PleaseStayCote and #BringCoteBack. Those are are being disrespectful to someone who is leaving for her own personal reasons. Fans (and even obsessed fan girls) need to respect it. They need to move on.

Let me ask "y'all" something – if you had a chance to quit your job (whether you loved it, hated it, loved your co-workers or didn't) ... would you stay? I wouldn't. I've had jobs I couldn't wait to leave, and others I didn't want to ... but I did.

Some people think she's making a mistake. I don't. Since it is "personal" reasons, perhaps she wants to start a family; move to Chile where her mother resides; perhaps she needs a "medical" leave. Some people want privacy. Being on the #1 TV show in the U.S (and likely the world) can't be easy for her.

I'm hoping some of the "twits" on Twitter and elsewhere will quit giving Cote de Pablo such a guilt trip. If you're suicidal over her departure – GO TO THE ER NOW!! CALL 9-1-1. There is life, love, and light out there. Your life will continue.

From the way the tweets are going, it seems like it is obsessed fan girls who are losing themselves over it. I'd like to make an appeal to them (and perhaps their parents):

PLEASE SEEK PROFESSIONAL PSYCHIATRIC ASSISTANCE. YOU ARE ACTING IN AN UNHEALTHY MANNER. CALL 9-1-1, SPEAK WITH YOUR RELIGIOUS LEADER, SPEAK WITH A POLICE OFFICER OR PARENT.

PLEASE!!

Even if you do commit suicide, Cote won't return ... nor should she return to appease you. This is her life, let her live it.

With that said ... I wish her well in her personal and professional future.

Can you see why social media and NCIS are toxic?
